I deleted my rant, f them, they get no more time in my head. Wow, I was just in the fastest goodbye lunch ever! Submitted by wolfietherat on Thu, 01/17/2008 - 18:57.
Today we had my going away lunch. My boss called in our orders and our food was there waiting when we arrived. We came in, sat down, ate and left. Hardly a word was spoken. We set a time record. When I got back, she gave me a card that the department people signed, there was no time to give it to me at lunch. The funny thing is, that is just what I should have expected, she would not want us hemming and hawing whilst work was there to be done. These things just make me know that I made the right decision to go to the govt. job. Things are so right at this time. I made plans with the p And F you too. I simply dread this time of year at this job. It is just 10 times worst than regular days, the fakes are 10 times faker, people are bickering over who gets what christmas card, you all know the routine. Govt/Federal jobs? Submitted by wolfietherat on Tue, 12/18/2007 - 15:07.
Can anyone give me pros/cons for working in the govt.? I have an offer, it seems good but I thought I would ask. How do you guys feel about using a time clock to punch in and out? Submitted by wolfietherat on Tue, 09/04/2007 - 18:39.
After 8 years at this company, we are getting a time clock. We have a new HR person (long story) and she feels it takes too much time for her to calculate our time cards manually so we are getting this new fangled time clock. There are about 20 people in the office that will start using it, two people in HR that do the calculations. (Hmmm, sounds like 10 cards each to do, not much work I would think.) I think it is over kill but it is me that has to start using it so, I thought I would ask your opinion. I hate days like this. Submitted by wolfietherat on Fri, 07/13/2007 - 13:17.

I hate these days when I get into work and have that awful feeling about how am I ever going to make it through this day without going ape shit??? Last night on "earl" (us tv show), his ex wife took some "chill pills", I wished so bad I had some. I know, they aren't real, she was an actress playing a part. OK, I finally did it. I had my annual review. At the bottom of the review it has future goals. My goals were to keep doing what I have been doing. I am rotting in this job but, the pay is OK. The next day I went to my manager and asked if she could perhaps create a supervisory position in our department and that after 8 years with the company, I felt I was ready to fill this position. She actually yelled at me. She slams her hand on her desk and says "DO YOU WANT MY JOB?, HUH, DO YOU?" I was stunned to say the least. That made any doubt in my mind that this was not a thankless, dead-end job to rest. Heck, I just had to go to the owner of the company to get a key to the closet where paper towels are kept. My manager wants me to ask her when I need to get in there, I can't anymore. When I think about these things, and there are many, many more, I feel like a little kid. You see, other people have this key so they can get paper towels but my boss doesn't want any of her people to have one. We all look like a bunch of chumps, asking permission to dry our hands off. Anyway, Friday I went to see a house. (The owner of the company rents to me so I sort of have all of my eggs in one basket, I can't live there and work at another company and the housing here is crazy priced. Homes start in my area at 700K.) Anyway, I went to West Virginia, I found a farmette on 2.5 acres an older couple is selling very cheap. On flat land, mountain view, huge garden with grapes, blue berries, peach trees apple trees, I can go on forever. I am nervous about this change but what I am doing now in my job is driving me crazy and I am not happy at all. Has anyone lived in Charleston, WV? Submitted by wolfietherat on Mon, 01/29/2007 - 17:23.
I have been looking at houses there and I just wanted to ask if anyone knows that area. Seems like a small town, everyone I met was really nice but just like our jobs, things are probably different from the inside. Are there any web sites I can refer to? F my kids job!!! Boss / Manager / Supervisor | Retail/Wholesale
My son worked at a store that rhymes with Sighs. It was an easy job for the time being and he actually enjoyed it. When they make an employee purchase they are to sign the receipt. My son got a bag of reeses pieces, and paid $1.25 then the register tape jammed and of course customers came in so he never got around to signing the receipt. He forgot. The supervisor there, freaked out! She is totally paranoid. All she said to him was "BACK OFF." as though he was a threat to her or something. There are other instances where a "black" man of all people was on the pay phone for about 10 minutes, she was saying "do you think he is making a drug deal?" My son said the guy looked like a soccer coach or something with his BMW suv, very non-threatening. Another guy came in and was speaking loud, she went and hid in the back, when the man left, she said "I thought he was a robber." Anyway, back to my son, he didn't realize "BACK OFF!" meant he was fired. He went to work the next day and another clerk had to tell him he was fired. How do crazy people get put into positions of deciding someones fate? No, my son is fine without the job but what if it was someone that really needed the income? They do have a camera, my son told her to look at it and she would see that he paid the $1.25 and she said "That take too long." (she is foriegn) I bet there isn't a camera. I am pissed my son was accused of stealing $1.25 though. Oh another story about her. We are in a really small town. There are 2 stores and a little plaza in what you would call our "downtown". One day the other store, which rhymes with Foyal Farms, ran out of register tape, a guy from there went to "sighs" and asked if they could borrow some. That woman said "NO, not for "Smile, it can't be that bad!." Submitted by wolfietherat on Fri, 10/20/2006 - 14:17.

I feel like bitch slapping the next jerk that walks past me and says "Smile!" I really hate that shite. I don't get paid to "smile". I get paid to do a job. Don't get me wrong, I am not sitting here at my desk crying or anything, I am just not fuking smiling. I am not upset, just sitting here working. I treat everyone fair, more than they do me, I just don't want a damn thing to do with them other than the extent of the job, smiling is not something I want to give them, seeing them does not make me want to smile. What can I say to these assholes that say this???? I really want them to shut the fuk up. My boss can't see the light of day Submitted by wolfietherat on Thu, 10/05/2006 - 15:15.

She is so far up the owners rear end. There are 6 of us that work under her. We are the ones that suffer. If anything related to us is going to cost the company (owner) she has to say something. We just changed health ins. companies and premiums increased, of course. We had open enrollment and I added my son, 10 yrs old, no medical conditions, rarely sick to my insurance and not a word was spoken. Someone else added her husband, he is 42, but was in an accident two years ago and has had back problems since, lots of Dr visits, meds, you know the routine. Well, our boss actually told her that the companies premiums went up because of her husband. Why did she have to say that? Her biggest concern is the owner, us under her can eat dust for all she cares. Here is another: someone got a traffic ticket, $50.00. in wash dc, after 30 days it goes to $100.00. The person turned it in late and gave ma a money order for 100.00 (fine and late fee) when I cut a check to pay the ticket for 100.00, my boss wanted me to void it and reissue it for 50.00 to see if we could get away without paying the fine. She would take 50.00 from an employee! Not to worry, I rolled my eyes and sent the 100.00 anyway. Status Anxiety Submitted by wolfietherat on Tue, 09/19/2006 - 17:59.
A book by Alain de Botton. I have not finished the book yet so take this as you may. He covers things like self-esteem. If our potential is greater than our successes, our self esteem will suffer. Simple, I know but it made sense to me, if we are doing a job that is not satisfying, our self-esteem suffers. Advertising too, they have a way to always make us want more. A rich man can never be satisfied (happy)with what ever he gets but a poor man can as long as he is satisfied with what he has. They used an example for CocaCola. Ad's show rich people drinking it and being high class, a poor person will say "hey, I can buy a coke (affordable to them) and I will have a moment of being high class too." Always dangling that carrot. |
