Boss / Manager / Supervisor
So, I was recently passed over for a promotion/raise because I don't have past experience as a department director. That logic would be perfectly fine, except for the fact that for over 2 years, whenever the departing director was gone, I filled in, very capably, and to some, did better work than the department director. But, that isn't good enough to get me the job. Bigoted Co-worker Submitted by skazoo on Fri, 09/21/2007 - 16:28.

So, I've been working at my job for over a year, and I love the job. I don't however, so much like a few of my co-workers. It's really only 4 people, but they're people who have a say in how things run here. They pick on me from time to time, usually about things I have no control over. They make fun of my clothes because I wear the same clothes often because I don't have enough money to buy a ton of clothes like they seem to. I have to spend my money on rent, car payments, student loans, and all the other bills a young, married guy has to pay for. They're all single, and didn't have to pay for college. Worst kind of working environment, part 2 Submitted by skazoo on Sat, 09/15/2007 - 17:44.
Ok, I think people misunderstood the point of my last post about the worst kind of working environment. I asked," Of the following, which do you think contributes most to a bad working environment, and why?" and I listed the following options: - No windows - Co-workers don't have a sense of humor - Lots of office gossip - Boss has a romantic or sexual relationship with a co-worker - Company won't spend money when they need to, or company wastes money People replied with answers like mean boss, asshole co-workers, being underpaid/under appreciated, and so on, and some asked why I left things like that off the list. Well, the answer is simple: those things ALWAYS contribute to a shitty workplace. The things I listed are, compared to having a troll for a boss, not that bad, and some people don't mind them. They're not quite at that level that would make you quit on a whim. I once worked at a place that REQUIRED me to celebrate a holiday that my religion doesn't observe. I've worked for bosses who didn't know what they were doing and they were absolutely awful human beings, at work and outside of work. What's the worst kind of working environment? Submitted by skazoo on Mon, 09/10/2007 - 17:03.
A good portion of people hate the place they work. They don't always hate the people they work with directly, but people in other departments, or just the general attitude of the company can play a big role in people's view of their workplace. Of the following, which do you think contributes most to a bad working environment, and why? - No windows - Co-workers don't have a sense of humor - Lots of office gossip - Boss has a romantic or sexual relationship with a co-worker - Company won't spend money when they need to, or company wastes money Worthless... Boss / Manager / Supervisor
Once a week, I sit down with my boss for a review of my performance. In my industry, that's normal. I have no problem doing it. However, I do have a problem with my boss writing emails, taking phone calls from friends, and generally not pay attention during out review session. He projects that he doesn't really care how I'm doing, and he isn't committed to me becoming my best at what I do. Granted, our meeting is only about 15 minutes. But it's 15 minutes of pure hell. He makes me feel inadequate, no matter how well I'm doing, and offers no constructive criticism whatsoever. Without giving away what I do for a living, the job I have is one that not many people have. It takes a certain talent that not everyone has, and you're constantly refining your craft. And, as with almost any profession, every employee is different. I'm different than the other people I work with, and any moron can figure that out with a little common sense. But my boss CONSTANTLY makes me feel like I need to not be myself, but I should be like one of my female co-workers (I'm a dude). In my profession, it's easy to tell when I'm not being myself. So he's basically giving me terrible advice everytime we sit down for our little meeting. What a fucking pig... Submitted by skazoo on Fri, 02/02/2007 - 19:12.

We got pizza at the office today. Three pizzas, to be exact, all large. I waited to get some because I wanted to finish what I was doing, because when I'm at work, I actually work, unlike 95% of the people I work with. But when I got to the breakroom, all of the pizza was gone, including one of the boxes. It turns out that the fat fuck down the hall from me ATE AN ENTIRE LARGE PIZZA BY HIMSELF. Nobody stopped him from taking the box back to his desk, and stuffing the whole thing into his fat, ugly, blob of a body. How would they like it if I ordered a bunch of food, said it was for everyone, and only shared it with the 3 people I liked? So, not only do I blame the Blob for being a fucking pig, I blame my co-workers for being so stupid as to let him do it. And I didn't bring anything to eat for lunch because I knew we were getting pizza. So, no lunch for me today. I kind of feel like Milton in "Office Space" when he's the only person who doesn't get a piece of birthday cake. I've had it... Submitted by skazoo on Mon, 01/22/2007 - 18:36.

I don't know why I bother, but for whatever reason, I still go out of my way to be nice to my co-workers who aren't nice to me. Maybe it's my nature, or maybe I'm just stupid. I go out of my way to say hi, ask how they're doing, and so on. I always end up making myself look like a dumbass because I'll try to strike up a casual conversation, and they look at me like I'm speaking gibberish because they don't know why I'm talking to them. A few months ago, I was wrong accused of being rude, mean, irritable, and of yelling at people. Although those were false accusations, I never went out of my way to be cheery, say hi to people, or have random conversations with people. So, I started doing that in an attempt to "clean up my image" at work. And now that I've done that, all it's done is backfire, and it's turned into "he's such a dork" and "why does he always bother me?" It's not like I stand in someone's office for a long time going on about my record collection or some sporting event. I just ask them how they are, and if they go into more detail than "I'm fine," I try to have a conversation with them, usually lasting now longer than about 2 minutes. I also don't have 89758902375 conversations with each person; I have one or two. Fucking Bullshit Submitted by skazoo on Mon, 01/15/2007 - 18:29.

So, I got yelled at for something I didn't do. I tried to explain to my boss that I didn't do anything, but, since the person who told him I did it is his little girlfriend, he believes her and not me. This is such bullshit. She could tell him I stole something, hit her, any kind of lie she wants to tell him, and he'll believe her. Do I need video proof to clear myself of any wrong doing anytime the bitch says I did something that I didn't do? I'll admit that I have a bit of an attitude problem. I have a very short fuse. But I have made great strides to keep my cool while I'm at work. Even before, I NEVER yelled or swore at anyone. Will it ever end??? Submitted by skazoo on Thu, 01/11/2007 - 17:12.

Let me just start by saying I don't hate my job by any stretch of the imagination. It's fun, I don't have to work very hard, and I don't work long or weird hours. However, as much as I love my job, I hate some of my co-workers equally as much. No matter what I seem to do, I feel like I'll never be accepted by most of the people I work with. Of about 30 employees, there are 4 that I feel I can even call acquaintances; I wouldn't call them friends. Other than those 4 people, the rest either completely ignore me or make fun of me behind my back. I work 6 days a week almost every week, and everyday, I come in early, work hard, and leave when my work is done. I don't waste time, I don't make excuses if I mess up, I'm flexible when my work schedule gets changed, and I don't complain about ANYTHING. Yet, I'm treated like I don't know what I'm doing, or as if I'm doing everything wrong. Nobody seems to notice that I get to work early everyday. Nobody seems to notice that I volunteer to help out whenever it's needed. Nobody seems to care about anything I do, unless I mess up. And heaven forbid I make a mistake; you'd think I just burned the place down and destroyed the company. AAAHHHH!! The fucking whistler!!!!!!!!! Submitted by skazoo on Thu, 11/09/2006 - 16:50.

You may or may not recall my post a while ago about a guy who works in my office who constantly whistles, and how I scared him shitless, and hadn't heard any whistling for quite some time. However, apparently I didn't make myself clear. Today, I came in, and he was whistling again. And let me remind you: this isn't regular whistling -- it's like someone is blaring a CD of whistling with a PA system from an Aerosmith concert. I went about my business away from the fuckface, and about an hour ago, went to use the restroom. As I go in, everything is normal; smells like someone is taking a dump, but nothing out of the ordinary for a men's bathroom. But then, as I ready myself, I start hearing the whistling. The guy is taking a massive shit and whistling like he's performing at Carnegie Hall! So, instead of finishing my business and walking out, I finish my business and, with both fists, pound 7 or 8 times on the wall of the stall. All I hear is his elderly groan, so I walk out. I haven't heard him whistling since then. What the fuck is wrong with you?? Submitted by skazoo on Fri, 10/20/2006 - 14:55.
So, there's the old guy who whistles everyday, all day. He's been here for close to 50 years, and everyone lets him do whatever he wants (leave at noon, come in late, whistle all day) because he's old. When he whistles, it's not your normal, everyday little whistle. It's like a fucking symphony in D minor is passing over his shriveled lips and rotten teeth. It's like listening to Jimbo's Greatest Whistling Hits in high def. I've asked him to stop whistling on numerous occasions, and he just looks at me, and then goes back to whatever he was doing. This morning, I decided I'd had enough of his whistling. Saw this and thought it might be useful Submitted by skazoo on Thu, 10/19/2006 - 15:05.
Eight Ways to Boost Your Salary If you're looking to punch up that paycheck, there are eight simple yet effective ways to boost your salary. Our career experts and real-life stories will show you how to prosper by speaking up for what you really want and actually getting it. 1. Ask for a raise: Do your homework by asking your HR compensation department for salary ranges within your position. Of course, you can't just trust their word on it. Check external sources as well such as Salary.com. Sharon Winston, senior vice president and managing director of the San Jose, Calif., office of Lee Hecht Harrison, a global career services firm, notes you should be prepared for the talk with your boss. "Identify three of your strongest accomplishments within the organization or areas in which you took on extra responsibility," she says. "If you are still turned down, ask how you might improve in asking for a raise in the future." I just don't understand this... Submitted by skazoo on Wed, 10/18/2006 - 14:42.
Boss / Manager / Supervisor
I work directly with 3 other people. One is everyone's boss, the other is a lower management person, and the other is on the same level as me, just someone who works here. The person who's second in command is the person who basically got me the job, and for that, I'm grateful because I really like my job. But, this person constantly talks about me behind my back and tells the top guy things that I said that I didn't actually say. I'm friends with the guy who's on the same level as me because he's nice to me. We talk about all sorts of things, we have a common trust and respect for each other, thus making us workplace friends. This leads me to something that happened about 2 weeks ago... The people at work... Submitted by skazoo on Tue, 10/10/2006 - 14:44.
Everywhere you work, the kinds of people you work with seem to be the same. For instance, tell me there isn't a young guy or girl where you work who thinks they're the best thing to ever happen to the human race. And tell me there isn't that one person who's sure they're getting fired. Then, there's the office chameleon, the guy or girl who wants to be friends with everyone in the entire building, regardless of personality clashes. Also, everyone's boss seems to be the same. No boss, or really anyone in a management position, really knows what's going on in the office. They think they do, but they don't. They think the douche bag who steps on people works really hard, and they think you're the laziest son of a bitch to ever walk the face of the earth. They think they do a great job of managing all the different departments, and that everyone is satisfied with their current situation. Of course, this is almost always incorrect. Things to remember at work Submitted by skazoo on Wed, 10/04/2006 - 16:26.
Everything and Everybody
I love my job. I have the coolest job in the world. But, every now and then, my boss or one of the higher ups decides to be a douche bag. One of those days was yesterday. However, instead of getting mad and posting about how pissed I am that people are two faced, liars, and complete morons, I've decided to try to make light of the situation. Feel free to post this at your office. So far, everyone here thinks it's funny and has eased the mood a bit. So, my fellow worker bees, I present to you "The 13 Things Everyone Should Know About the Working World or, Fuck You, Bossman." 1. During your senior year of college, never, for any reason, begin looking for a job or working on a resume until well after graduation. But, make sure you tell everyone you're looking for a job and that your resume is done; you don't want to come off as lazy. |
