I figured out how I'm leaving this place if it's not by heart attack or other death-inducing reason. If they don't get their stories on time, oh well... you missed deadling... pages are blank... I'm going home now... bye! Wouldn't the shit hit the fan if we published a blank newspaper. Ah... I can dream. I just don't know what to do anymore Submitted by splash on Fri, 11/05/2004 - 02:17.
Boss / Manager / Supervisor
Just when I think maybe things are getting a bit better I get hit upside the head with a sledgehammer. I've been working for this bitch for more than 3 years now. Why? because I spent 2 years actively looking for another job in my field and I burnt out with there was nothing out there. Not to mention that all confidence in my abilities has been completely buried under a ton of shit, not seeing the light of day at all. Unfortunately it's the nature of my job to hear only the things that go wrong. If things go right I don't hear a thing because nobody can tell I fixed anything. I'm constantly asked if I ever check my work, constantly nagged to do things that aren't my immediate responsibility but because someone else misses something it becomes my responsibility. Essentially I'm not to trust that anyone else can do their job right and it's ultimately my responsibility. Fine, then pay me more and let me do the whole damn thing myself. That way I know it'll be done correctly and you can stop assuming that I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I can't believe this... Submitted by splash on Wed, 09/22/2004 - 14:13.

You would not believe what happened yesterday. Monday night I sent an email telling those involved that I would most likely not be in the next day due to feeling really horrible. I had a massive headache, that only today is starting to fade. I also told them that I'd call before I was to come in and let them know how things looked. I called my co-worker first & everything was fine, she had no problems. I then called my supervisor who immediately freaked on me because "we have such a big paper and I'm worried they can't handle it" Then she proceeded with "You need to at least come in and check on them, you don't have to work the whole time... etc" I can't wait for the day until I tell them all to kiss off Submitted by splash on Mon, 09/13/2004 - 00:31.

Love the work I do, hate my job. I just finished three weeks of complete and utter BS. There are two people that run our sub-department, I’m one of them. When I leave for vacation I make sure I’m totally covered and have a replacement who is willing to come in. I do this because the other person will not do anything that is outside her job description, ie: my job. When she leaves I run the whole show. It sucks. Luckily she doesn’t ever leave for very long. The past month was hell. She was gone and I was totally fine with that. She’s not the problem. The problem is the management of the other sub-departments as well as my supervisor. I hate my job Submitted by splash on Fri, 03/26/2004 - 05:25.
I work with students on a deadline. That sentence in itself should be enough. Don't get me wrong. There are great students out there, those that know what it means to meet deadlines, get projects done on time, etc. Unfortunately there are also those that do not know or even care. These are the ones that I tend to get stuck with. The student workers directly under me are great. I hire them & they're a great bunch. I've been told that I'm a great person to work for... I think it's because while they I know expect them to get the work done fast and efficiently, I also let them do their own thing when they have down time. It's the students that aren't directly under me that make my job unlikable (well them & the admin... but that's a completely different story). |
