Rob is the Pizzaman's blogThings are getting worse for hourly employees Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Thu, 01/06/2005 - 18:47.
I found out that the place I work for is not giving hourly raises twice a year anymore (was only 5-15 cents each time). This means that you only get once raise a year. I will not even get that as I am at the peak that drivers can get. I have been there over 10 years. What happened to cost of living raises? Gas has gone up, so has the cost of tires. They also will not raise the driver reimbursement. In my area it has never gone up from 50 cents. In some states it went up to $1 but was reduced to 50 cents one or two years ago. My Manager said I should promote and would make more money as a Assistant Manager then a Store Manager. Who trained these idiots? Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Sat, 12/11/2004 - 07:50.
We have a new phone idiot at the Hut. She is not new asking customers if they live in house or Condo so one driver had to call the customer to get a unit number. I got to go to a house that didn't order a pizza (a time waste and no tip since they didn't order a pizza). She was "only" 1 number off on putting in the phone number so the address was for someone else. Since she didn't verify the address (that would have caught the mistake), the customer got to wait an extra 35 minutes before they got their pizza and I got to go to someones house that didn't order or want a pizza. Then I got to go to the "right" house with a freebie pizza. Happy Thanksgiving to all on this blog site Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Thu, 11/25/2004 - 17:52.
Hi all on this site, and a Happy Thanksgiving to all. Luckily Thanksgiving is one of 2 days that the Hut is closed on so I have the day off. It has been awhile since I made a blog entry but I have remembered my nick and pw so I am back. I also had to take 8 weeks off for surgery. It was an elective surgery, I donated a kidney to my Father who was on Dialysis due to renal failure from a disease he has. All went good and I am back at work and he is off of Dialysis and able to eat pretty much what he wants. I was very strange not being able to work but my Father covered my living costs while I was unable to work. Happy July 4th to all the bloggers Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Fri, 07/02/2004 - 18:23.
Hi all in this blogging community. I hope everyone has a safe July 4th weekend. I do not get weekends off, and I forgot to ask for the 4th off. Sometimes I ask for the 4th off, since it is hard to deliver pizzas with so many people out lighting fireworks in the streets. Luckily this year it is on a Sunday, so I work 10 am till 7:30 pm. This means, I will not have to drive after dusk when most of the people light their fireworks. One year, I had a kid throw a lit firework at my car. He thought it was funny, until his parental unit started yelling at him in front of his friends. My dad was a fireman, so we rarely got to light any fireworks when I was a young kid. Filing a written complaint about my Shift Manager Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Fri, 06/11/2004 - 22:13.
After having to deal with my bad shift manager this last weekend, I have decided to file a written complaint against him. He likes to verbally abuse employees and never has a positive answer to a question or statement. He purposely tried to get me mad last Sunday night. I just gave him the silent treatment as I rarely get into verbal fights. He is so unliked at my hut, that we have inside people that will call in sick or not show up for their evening shifts with him. I just found out today, when I dropped off my complaint, that he actually made cat noises after an employee told him that she was not doing ok since a Fox had attacked and killed her Cat. He has certain employees that he likes to verbally harrass. He also has very poor management skills. I think he is going on 2 years at the hut, and has already been talked to 2 or 3 times about his behavior and the way he treats the inside crew. I think that over 2/3rds of the drivers do not like him and he knows that. He rarely will run dispatch on Sunday night. That is his priority one job, unless he is on the Make Table. I doubt my manager will do much about this, as they are shorthanded on Shift Mangers. We have to "borrow" a shift manager for 2 shifts a week. I addressed my complaint to her and the Area Supervisor-Coach. This way I can atleast try and get the Area Supervisor involved. After his second talking to, he improved slightly but now is back to being very rude and verbally abusive to certain employees. Why do customers feel that they have to lie? Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Fri, 05/28/2004 - 20:10.
I have heard some weird lies to management over the years of driving pizzas. One was the kid that told my manger that the pizza had a 7 inch reddish brown hair in it. Well, that day we only had 2 people working (small pizza place) and we both had short black hair. My manger told the customer that, and the kid hung up on him. Just the other night a guy working in a liquor store called up and asked why he had not gotten his order yet (wings and breadsticks..barely making our $8 min total). I brought up his order on the computer and told him that he ordered 35 minutes ago at 6:40 and that my clock shows that it is only 7:15. It's going to be a bad summer at the hut! Another week has passed at the hut. It was an unusaully bad one. We have a new Assisntant Manager. He worked at Arby's for a year, but he is not showing very much promise. He is still following the shift manager around like a puppy would follow a child. I do not know why, but someone put him on the end of the make table. This means he is in charge of putting in Breadsticks, Wings, and to verify all the pizzas got made. This means that we were not having enough breadsticks put in for all of the orders. The almost newbie shift manager was in the middle of the make table, thus no one was running the dispatch computer. One really really bad customer Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 04:32.

Back after one of the most insanely weird weeks at the hut. First things First. We got a new Assistant Manager in Training this week. This guy has had no book training or even regular class training. He is so green that it is unreal. He mainly just stands around asking the employees about themselves. He does try to do some things, but mainly stands around just watching things. When he finally did have to go on the make table to make some pizza orders he refused to hang up his cell phone. He was talking to his girlfriend, and barely able to put one pizza together in under 3 minutes. He looked pretty funny holding the cell phone with one hand, and wandering around looking for dough. This was on his 5 or 6th day, and he was unable to figure out what pan had Pan Dough in it. Umm.. maybe its in the big deep ones. Then it took way to long for the pies to come out of the oven since he stayed on his phone for over 10 min while on make. It is going to be a long summer if he makes it through training. They are saying they will give him 2 months to go through the training. He has one year of experiance at Arby's. I tried to train him on how to do a carryout order (got tired of watching him doing nothing). Apparently he didn't watch what I did (even though I stopped at each step), since he failed miserably at his attempt to cash out an order later that shift. I give him less than a 20% chance at making 3 months. Poor secret shopper reviews Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Wed, 05/05/2004 - 18:58.
Well, another week has passed at the Hut, and we have gotten a new all time low score (33 out of a possible 100) on a secret shopper review (champs check). This messes up my Store Managers bonus check, so she is mad at our recent round of low scores. Our last round of kids that have been hired to take orders are not putting in the right toppings or reading back the order to verify they hit the right buttons. These kids that are on the phones do not seem to care if they do their job correctly or not. This means the customer is not getting the right pizza, and will be more likely to give a poor review. I actually catch some customers purposely changing their order 3 times (while taking their order) so they can say I gave them the wrong order or pizza. I will repeat their order, sometimes making up items along the way. 1/3 of the time, they do not even catch it. There will always be scammers, but I understand when a person wants something on only half of the pizza, the the "Phone Bitch" puts it in wrong. For many years, our CSR's were almost always females. So the veterans started calling them that. Nowadays, we have more male CSR's but we still call them that. Another day at the Hut Submitted by Rob is the Pizzaman on Fri, 04/30/2004 - 22:05.
