Boss / Manager / Supervisor
What's worse is that I "report" to a female. Not that I'm a male chauvinist, misogynistic, or a woman -hater by any stretch, but I do feel that most women who find themselves in positions of power often have a pent up desire to unleash their wrath upon subordinates. Too Specialized Submitted by anticorporate on Mon, 04/14/2008 - 00:53.
Everything and Everybody
Is it me or does it seem as though the majority of decent positions, based on their descriptions, require a narrow list of hard skills (mostly technical)? What's more, the companies posting these jobs seem completely inflexible about considering potentially qualified applicants who may not fit the exact job description. Here's a clue: a good employee is one who has the ability to learn, and who may not necessarily fit inside some box made of industry jargon and buzzwords. Don't Ya Just Love It When... Some asshole, after you've described (or fervently bitch, as the case may be) your terrible job situation, tells you to "just change careers." It's a whole hell of a lot easier said than done to just up and switch. Like I've bitched about before, I've been trying to "switch" for over 2 fucking years now, to no avail. When you're stuck, you're stuck. Any Actual Results From Recruiters? Submitted by anticorporate on Thu, 12/27/2007 - 18:11.
Vendor / Supplier / Agent / Contractor
Has anyone actually ever had any positive results from corporate/professional recruiters or their agencies? And, I'm referring to decent positions with a minimum salary of $50k... It seems that about 80% of decent job postings are now handled through multiple bureaucracies involving inept recruiters. All I have ever experienced vis-a-vis recruiters are teases with no real possibility of landing a job. Most are horribly unorganized, aloof, and seem to just go through the motions without ever taking action toward helping someone get hired. I posted on here about 6 months ago, bitching and moaning about not finding any decent jobs - and guess what? Same shit, different day. I've had many bullshit phone interviews that never lead to anything...then I see these morons that actually get these jobs, and it is a fucking joke. Relationship bankers with "some college," marketing managers with certificates from community colleges...what a shitty deal. Any Actual Results From Recruiters? Everything and Everybody
The U.S. jobs report today indicated that the economy had added 110,000 jobs in September. Where the fuck are they? Who are the people getting them? I routinely search for decent jobs paying $50k or above, and sometimes I hear back from HR departments or recruiters...to no avail. I would love to meet the people that are apparently filling these positions. It's not like I live in a terrible job market - on the contrary, I live in one of the top 10 markets in the U.S. So what gives? Everything seems so fucking specialized now...but when I was in college less than 6 years ago, the emphasis was on being well-rounded and knowing a little bit about many subjects. It seems like everything I was "taught" was wrong. No one goes to lunch Submitted by anticorporate on Mon, 03/12/2007 - 23:19.
The Company
It seems that I'm the only one who goes to lunch. If that weren't bad enough, it's like I'm supposed to feel guilty for doing it. How can a reasonable human being sit in an office or cubicle for 8 to 9 hours a day without leaving the prison that is work? Are you that dedicated? Do you love it that much? No wonder most of the women have vericose veins that you could see from a mile. Fuck. Fuck a meeting Submitted by anticorporate on Fri, 03/09/2007 - 01:53.
Why so many fucking meetings? They usually don't accomplish anything. The managers just talk about doing tasks and wind up "delegating" all the work to the subordinates. Some people just like to hear themselves talk so much they can't go 5 seconds without it. If you like the spotlight so much, why don't you audition for American Idol? Not everyone was neglected as a child, so we don't all crave constant attention and approval from those around us. Grow the fuck up. Corporate Bullshit Submitted by anticorporate on Sun, 03/04/2007 - 02:30.
Everything and Everybody
Where to start...First, I hate pretty much everything there is about corporate working environments. The people corporations attract have been molded all their lives to fit right in. Using inflated language and euphemisms, craving attention, unnecessary competitiveness, jockeying for position, "kiss-up, kick-down" mentality. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Why can't a typical business environment be one where people simply do their jobs, act collegial to one another, and forego all the corporate bullshit? |
