Well after reading blogs on this site for awhile, I thought I would start one of my own.
First a little hstory:
I have been working at Pizza Hut for 10 years and 4 months. I no longer work over 24 hours a week, since I have a homebased business of selling surplus and auction goods.
I have seen the Hut change drastically over the last 10 years. As a driver, I am no longer allowed to take 3 deliveries at one time. When I first started at Pizza Hut, I was allowed to take Quads (4 runs) even Quins at times. About 3 years ago, they outlawed Quads, and about 2 years ago, they outlawed triples. I also found out recently that there is a ceiling to the hourly rate that drivers can make. Also this year, they have done away with our spring raise. For most of the years I have worked at the hut, we got one raise in May, and one in Oct. A few years ago, they took our second raise away (we get a raise of 10 or 15 cents an hour as a driver). They gave it back. Now they are taking it away again. Do you think they would move the raise to July? NO. They will not give it to use till October. I used to be the most expensive driver at my store, until a driver that has worked for 16 years at the hut transferred to my store. All of the Management at my store, knows that I am one of the best drivers at our unit. Even the new shift that I call Big Brian thinks so. Big Brian and I do not get along very well. Pizza Hut (in Colorado) refuses to increase the driver reimbursement that they pay out. My Store Manager says that we make most of our money in tips. While I make 50% of my money in tips, it would be nice if they paid 60 cents instead of 50 cents a run. Oil changes have tripled in costs in the last decade. Gas keeps edging up to $1.80 or higher. They have not increased the driver reimbursement in 17 years (from what I am told). The hut that I work at is a Corporate owned one. Franchise (privately owned) stores set their own rates of reimbursement. Even Scumino's (Domino's) gives their driver's 5 cents more a run for each year they work. This is only at certain stores, but I have talked to several drivers that make 70 or 75 cents a run at Domino's. I deliver in a yuppy suburb. I have delivered Pizza to Joe Sakic of the Avalanch, and Adam Foote. This means that my average tip is almost $2.50. I average 18 runs on a 5 hour shift, and 24 on a 9 hour shift. Dayshifts are not as busy as nightshifts in my area. Our store is one of the few that have drivers that have driven for more than 4 years. Pizza Hut is real strick on how many moving violations that a driver can have (one per 12 months). That and the fact that some of the drivers that get a college degree, actually get a job in that field. Well off to drive pies ..putting on fake smile..Rob
Joke of the Day: How do you get a College Graduate off of your front porch? Pay the Pizza Man so he will leave!
