It's going to be a bad summer at the hut!

Another week has passed at the hut. It was an unusaully bad one. We have a new Assisntant Manager. He worked at Arby's for a year, but he is not showing very much promise. He is still following the shift manager around like a puppy would follow a child. I do not know why, but someone put him on the end of the make table. This means he is in charge of putting in Breadsticks, Wings, and to verify all the pizzas got made. This means that we were not having enough breadsticks put in for all of the orders. The almost newbie shift manager was in the middle of the make table, thus no one was running the dispatch computer. This is on a saturday. Our second busiest day. Over 80% of our drivers know how to route themselfs and can cash themselfs out. However, there are a couple that can not. This means there were runs that were missing, runs that were dispatched and not taken, runs that no one knew who took or even if they were routed at all. Then to top that mess off, one order's file got locked. This means somewhere along the line the computer has gotten more than one request to access a file or log. Since this run was already dispatched, it also locked the drivers log of the driver that took it. The almost newbie manager did not know how to unlock the run or the driver. He managed to bring down the terminal so now nothing can be dispatched or routed. He tried to bring it back up but did something wrong, and got into a different screen. I was the third driver in line to cash out. After Almost Newbie left and went to the main computer to try and figure out what to do, the other 2 drivers were standing there doing nothing. I realized that I would have to bring up the screen so the other drivers could cash out. I told the first driver in line what to do, and he brought up the screen. This let the 5 drivers in line, to cash out and then be dispatched with new runs. I doubt if the almost newbie ever got the order unlocked as he just sent the driver home that was also locked out of the system. Later that evening the almost newbie shift mangager asked me who he still had on the clock and driving. There is way to easily look this up in the dispatch computer but I guess he did not know how to do this. I went ahead and told him who was still "on the road" and able to take deliveries. I was in the back doing my side duties of doing dishes. About ten minutes later, the almost newbie (4 months on the job, but you would never know it by talking to him) got a phone call from a customer asking him when we closed. All of the stores under our Area Manager closes at the same time on Saturdays. Midnight. He turned around and asked me what time we closed. I said it is Saturday, thus it would be Midnight. I also found out that our Area Manager is quitting. We also got another secret shopper (champs check) under 50% (43%). This pretty much messes up our store managers chanche of getting a bonus this quarter. Our sales have been good, but our store has not been running well. We also might be losing one of our good shift managers. He has over 10 years of experience, and is moving out of town. This means the newbie assistant manager will have to start running shifts on his own. I suspect he will crash and burn more than once. Monday did not go very well either. A newer cook was making mistakes so a few remakes were sent out. I had to deliver one of the freebies. It was half Pepperoni and half Sausage. He put mushrooms on one half and left off the Sausage. This is the same cook that sent a plastic lid through the oven. Our ovens have conveyers and the lid melts to them. With the burning and melting plastic fumes in the oven, this probably caused the other 6 pizzas in the oven to absorb some of these fumes. My manager did not remake these pizzas, but sent them out. I suspect that these pizzas tasted rather crappy. I am not looking forward to another Saturday nite with the almost newbie and newbie assitant manager working. I expect to start hearing circus music at any time. I also make less money when there are more mistakes on make. So in the long run the newbie and almost newbie are costing me money. They are having a hard time finding people to manage the huts, and have lowered their standards on recruitment. I used to keep count of all the shift managers that have come through the hut in my time at the hut. I stopped counting at 39. Some do not last a month but most of them only stick around for a year or so. Other get promoted and transfered to another store. I just keep telling myself that I only have less than 2 years left to get my next Accident Free bonus. Remember...Gather round the good stuff!!!
