Will it ever end???

Let me just start by saying I don't hate my job by any stretch of the imagination. It's fun, I don't have to work very hard, and I don't work long or weird hours. However, as much as I love my job, I hate some of my co-workers equally as much.

No matter what I seem to do, I feel like I'll never be accepted by most of the people I work with. Of about 30 employees, there are 4 that I feel I can even call acquaintances; I wouldn't call them friends. Other than those 4 people, the rest either completely ignore me or make fun of me behind my back.

I work 6 days a week almost every week, and everyday, I come in early, work hard, and leave when my work is done. I don't waste time, I don't make excuses if I mess up, I'm flexible when my work schedule gets changed, and I don't complain about ANYTHING. Yet, I'm treated like I don't know what I'm doing, or as if I'm doing everything wrong. Nobody seems to notice that I get to work early everyday. Nobody seems to notice that I volunteer to help out whenever it's needed. Nobody seems to care about anything I do, unless I mess up. And heaven forbid I make a mistake; you'd think I just burned the place down and destroyed the company.

For someone who doesn't make much money, I work harder than most other people here. Nonetheless, I get the least amount of respect.

I know your situation all too well. Do you rack your brain trying to figure out what you could have done to deserve the alienation? My job is that exact same way. I am "the cheese standing alone". However, someone has noticed my dependability and has taken notice. I have worked here almost 8 years so I am not sure how to react to this new-found acceptance after so long.
OK, the person that has noticed me, is the owner of this place. I am uncomfortable talking about this because I simply do not believe it. He called me into his office and said that he sees what a good job I do and how dedicated bla bla bla... Anyway, he wants me to be (here goes..) his assistant. All I can think of is Smithers, he works for Mr Burns on the Simpsons. Anyway, the funniest part of all this is now he takes me to lunch, you should see all those people that used to look right through me stare, they must be going crazy. If I sneeze, now they ask, in their fake concerned tone of voice, if I may be coming down with something. The sugar from those that used to stab my back is just too thick.
Anyway, I had to get that out. I am just very suspicious, I don't know how to take this "opportunity". Oh, if anyone is wondering, the owner is married, terrific wife, so don't go there.

So Skazoo, maybe it does end. I do still have one foot on the train though.

I hear ya. That's why I say, who gives a fuck? Granted my situation is a bit different...but still. Just play it nonchalantly. I hope you don't let on as if what these assholes do bothers you, because it shouldn't. Make "friends" with the right people and you'll leave the rest of them behind.

Just don't ever doubt yourself. Ever.

We have "the click" at our place. IF you are not doing what the cool kids do and trying to make work a social hour instead of work, then you are out.
