God I hate instant messenger

I work in a customer service department with two other people who sit directly behind me. They use instant messenger constantly and whenever they want to talk about someone, usually me, they will start typing away, while laughing at the same time. Funny, when I turnaround to ask a question, it suddenly stops, then resumes when I turn back to my computer screen. Interestingly enough, these two ask me why I get so focused on the work at hand, could it be the IM'ing that they are doing?
Any thoughts on how to handle this? It is really starting to annoy the hell out of me.

I would be inclined to just ignore them and let them get on with being immature. You always find them in the workplace. Don't waste your energy on them - you only have one life so don't waste it on jerks. :-)

yeah ignore them. I am always flattered when people take time out of their day to talk about the apparently scintillating subject that is me. And here I thought I had a pretty boring existence.
And the instant messenger, thats just a way for them to get comfortable in their miserable little existance. they are lifers. fuck them.

If you feel that this is abuse of company computer equipment and it is being used to harass you, go to the HR director and the IT department head and get some usage records for the people bothering you. Then again, I've seen some really shitty stuff be ignored where I work... Fucking management only cares when sales are down or production drops, not about us...

wageslaveZ - you do have a point but - to my mind - whistleblowing on colleagues causes a lot of stress to the whistleblower. The complaint is then swept under the carpet by management because that would mean they would have to work to investigate the complaint! :-(

Ignore is my advice. Trust me - I've worked so long with management and seen it all!
