What's the worst kind of working environment?

A good portion of people hate the place they work. They don't always hate the people they work with directly, but people in other departments, or just the general attitude of the company can play a big role in people's view of their workplace. Of the following, which do you think contributes most to a bad working environment, and why?

- No windows

- Co-workers don't have a sense of humor

- Lots of office gossip

- Boss has a romantic or sexual relationship with a co-worker

- Company won't spend money when they need to, or company wastes money

Lots of office gossip. Takes up lots of time, makes a hostile work environment.

Having to be there in the first place.

What about:

Coworkers lack common sense

Coworkers lack any work ethic (this includes them calling in a good amount of days)

Things in the office are outdated, broken, or just pieces of crap

Boss thinks they are God

Boss only wants things done their way, even if another way is better

Workplace is lacking in numbers due to the fact that the place sucks, they're too cheap to hire more people, or they fire people so quickly that there is not enough time to rehire and replace - Thus contributing to the fact that those who are there are being overworked

They monitor your every move

Use of timeclocks to nitpick every second you are at work

Yeah...that's it..for now.

They're all bad but I guess "Boss thinks they are God" is up there on the list... If that's the way it is, the rest is all downhill from there.

For me, one of the worse things is when:

you have a co-worker who is a really big jerk/bitch to you, but they kiss the manager's/owner's ass(es), so when you talk to either of them about what's going on, they say "oh, you're having problems w/ her? well, it's your own fault because she is great!! in fact, you could learn something from her! bla bla bla"

Fairycatcher, I work with a whole group of them. They are the worst.

Right now the thing that gripes me the most about my job is having to do everyone else's job too. Then getting your hours cut without being told about it, and getting griped at when you show up at what you think is "on time". And of course, no one else is there on time. So no one else is doing any work, and since your hours got cut you can't do it either and everyone is behind for the rest of the day.

I hate it when a coworker tries to befriend you and you find out that they're really relaying information to the boss. I've had this happen before where someone tries to be your friend and they will try to goad you into saying something bad about your boss. Usually I tell them off but I think if your employer tries to pull this stunt on you, you'd better start looking for something else if they try it on a regular basis. Moral of story: don't trust your co-workers.

fucking snakes in the grass, man. you really can't trust anyone at work. i had a chick who thought i was a pothead cuz i surf. (thanks for the stereotype, bitch!) she'd always try to act buddy-buddy w/ me and get me to admit i enjoyed the green. i never fell for it cuz i knew she didn't like me and was going to report that shit to the higher-ups. keep 'em all at a distance.

I have had that happen too. When I suspect it is happening, I gush about the boss and all of my co-workers, how wonderful they all are. The person usually disappears quickly.

Interesting you should mention no windows. To a lot of people that might not seem like such a big deal. But my space is so claustrophobic that it's making me claustrophobic! A window would do wonders. There is one window but it's high up near the ceiling and it's just a small thing. Just like they have in prisons (what a coincidence!) but even the view of that is blocked by my cubicle arrangement.

I think my biggest beef is being underpaid. I know what some others make. While I have no resentment toward them personally (since they didn't set my salary and are just trying to get the best they can) I feel massively resentful.
Since I am still living pay to pay at my age and with my experience and years (alot), something is drastically wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I know there are no bars on the door, I am free to go look for something better. It's like they make up the jobs and titles as they go along. I found out what one guy was making accidently-he told me. I don't repeat it to anyone, but I also know what a few others in the same position as me and with less experience are making. It's like I feel like a hungry dog begging scraps off the fucking table and being smacked on the nose with a newspaper. Somethins gotta give soon.

The top of the list for me would be working with old, outdated, "I can't change my way of doing things" people. No wonder everyone hates old people, they run the world and THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But that is just my personal hell.
