GuiltIt may be purely out of guilt that I feel compelled to state the obvious. For all my ranting and raving here, the one positive thing I may have never voiced is my honest and true respect for the people who actually run the company I work for. Although all the usual shit goes on and probably always will, the people who run the operation are actually very ethical and odd as it may sound, care about every single person who works for the company. Their power is limited in many ways, as they cannot control much of the dynamic and definetly cannot control each and every personality they hire or give power to. In fact, I'm sure certain aggressive personalities are required to thrive in certain positions and they have to weigh the positive against the negative. But I can never fault them in their obvious attempts to be fair and in the process, still manage to remain profitable. Which they have, in spades. Not an easy feat. So, my respect and heartfelt loyalty is with them. Which is probably the only true reason I haven't moved on. Because I have wanted to many, many times. Just the truth. In addition to a day job, I have been waitressing in the evenings. Our owner is an idiot, but the woman he has managing the place is an angel. No, I don't mean she is perfect. But she is running the place and being professional about it. It is a relief after working for a total micro-managing, anal-retentive control-freak. There have been people who have left after one day, a couple who have walked out mid-shift, and some fired for valid reasons. I myself have been tempted to leave, but I respect her and a few others too much to want to leave them in the lurch. Our owner, on the other hand, is an adult desperately trying to go back to adolescense. He is in his 30s, single, and hangs around in jeans and t-shirts. He flirts with the younger girls, swears like a sailor, has thrown dishes across the kitchen when angry, and smokes like a chimney. I have seen nothing from him that would earn my respect. In fact, our manager stated once the she hires people and he runs them off. Sad but true. She deserves better. |
