Boss / Manager / Supervisor | Computers, IT, Internet and New Media
Well, its been awhile since I posted. I did sorta find a dream job. Here it goes: I am head of special project which means I google shit all day and get to bulid new programs and think up ways to make the old system work better and get paid to do so. So cool, but I have been there a year and I was told that "WE" meaning the "MAN" dont give raises only qrtly bonuses. That's great but that does not help me put gas in car or food on table. Holy shit they made me manager! Submitted by noalarmsandnosu... on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 17:04.

Here is the one thing I promised myself when I got the promotion a few months back. - I will NOT under any circumstances act so shitty that my employees will log into Fuckthisjob.com and post about what a dick weed I am. So, my company has laid me off in favor of outsourcing off-shore (yea, that'll work). But, before I leave they've asked me to spend 8 f'ng hours in a freezing data center working on the switch beause, you know, it's going to be hard for the techs off-shore to do the activity. And, as usual there's no comp time for the time worked on a week-end night. I have to seriously question my career choice. Maybe Mom was right, I should've gotten an union job. My boss is a fucking douchebag. My old boss was a Jack Ass -- I hated him for a whole different set of reasons, which have been detailed thoroughly in posts prior on this very site. A Jackass, I've learned, is actually slightly more tolerable than a Douchebag. My Workspace View Submitted by companylovesmisery on Sun, 02/10/2008 - 16:51.

So I'm this high paid middle class computer jockey and so is my boss. He just thinks he knows more than me. Over the weekend we had some IT mainframe issue blow up. Stated briefly, he made the wrong decision and forced me against my better judgement, which was made known to him early on. Today I had to drag my nose through the mud to clean up the whole mess he had me create, dodging emails and phone calls all f'ing day. None of this had to happen. There was no reason or evidence to suspect the direction we took to solve the nightly computer run stream problem had anything to do with it. It just opened the door to human error (ME!). Isn't it fun when someone you've never seen before stops by to let you know how many things you've been doing wrong for years, and furthermore, how to do them? Well, if you're anything like the majority of the teachers that I deal with every day as a school's tech monkey, then you might as well go ahead and brace yourself for the happies, because I'm that someone. Why does my supervisor always try to chitchat to me at work? Doesn’t he know that sometimes I wish I were invisible just so I could punch him many times in the stomach? It’s funny the masks that we’ll wear when we need to, however, I feel that mine is slowly coming apart. I personally think I deserve an Oscar for the acting I do at my job. It’s really Office Space to the 3rd Power. Everyone walks around sulking and ranting about the job on Mondays and are suddenly reinvented and rejuvenated on Fridays, conversing all day in the cubes and walking with pep in their step. Then I have a supervisor who was promoted by default and is completely inadequate. I Watch TV at Work Submitted by miserylovescompany on Fri, 01/04/2008 - 20:22.

Haha. There is little to do on this lame job (most of the time). It's like a prison for 8 hours a day. So in order to make prison more tolerable, I brought in some DVDs this week. I caught up on Season 3 of Lost! Watched them on my Computer. Woo hoo. Think I have it easy? Think you want a job like mine? Think again. No sense of purpose, completly void of any direction, or future. Little work to do on my scheduled hours and yet they still call me on my days off. I brought these problems up with my 'boss' and he said, 'well read a book when you're bored'. So I thought, book, DVD, same difference. 2 days and counting. Two more days and I'm out of this fucking chump outfit. The local manager went off on holiday with her bald boyfriend/sex puppet and got back to a complete shitstorm yesterday. I was most displeased to notice that she remembered where she worked. However, old habits die hard as she was sitting in her office, door closed and looking at fucking wedding sites and most likely hooking up with randoms on BEBO. Personally I've had it with the multiple standards that their trumped up management have for their own convenience and the perpetual arse fucking that they give the employees. I give the fuckers 6 months before they go entirely tits up. Good riddance, I don't care about your customer base anymore. I'm sick of the customer's threats and constant negative feedback because your fucking helpdesk is too lazy to help anyone. "Thanks for the input" Submitted by tandoori2 on Sun, 10/28/2007 - 21:39.

Has your boss ever said "Thanks for the input"? That translates to: "I don't give a crap about what you say, I am the boss and I am smarter than you and you are just a worm we pay nothing to get what we want". Meanwhile the same 'boss' who said that has a 3-year FAILED software project on his hands and doesn't GET IT. Thanks for the input boss, here's my resignation letter and a 1/2-finished project. Good luck dumbass! I just quit my $40/hr job Submitted by tandoori2 on Tue, 10/16/2007 - 18:29.

So I moved all the way across the country last year for some crap $40/hr software development job from Silicon Valley where I lived and worked for 16 years. I made $50/hr in 1993 doing software. I moved to some backwards redneck swamp town in Florida for the new job. You might think "Florida - great! Palm trees, beaches, sunshine. Who wouldn't like that?" Not so fast. In reality it's a backwater Mississippi swamp-like town with a bunch of moronic rednecks and souther poor folks. My boss is some slick white ego-golfing-I'll-go-home-at-3-so-you-can-work greedy "business" jerk. Let's go down the list of his BS and the total irrationality: Overworked, underpaid Submitted by allmessup on Thu, 09/20/2007 - 19:06.
Boss / Manager / Supervisor | Computers, IT, Internet and New Media
I am a recent collge-grad who landed a job at the tech department of a company a few months ago. I have to put in around 60 to 80 hours a week in this job. There are only 2 people in my department (including myself) and we have to work our ass off non-stop everyday including weekends and holidays. Besides having to do our own projects, we have to help do other co-workers' projects as well. The worst part is, our boss ALWAYS feed us new projects the day before the deadline. The only way to meet those deadlines are pulling all nighters. It makes me mad when seeing other people leave work at 5pm while we have to work until 9pm to 1am. The frustrating part is that, we don't get paid for anything we done after 5pm. Also, the other guy and I have to take turns to work on weekends. And We don't get paid for weekend work. WTF!! Recently, the company has found some new clients from around the U.S. to use our software. My boss gave those cleints our personal cell phone numbers and told them that they can call us anytime for tech support. Thanks to our boss, we are getting on an average of 6 tech support calls everyday including weekends. Some of those calls I received them around 11pm at night. As a result, I have to get up at night and turn on my home computer to remotely connect to their computers in order to solve their problems. My co-worker and I decided to talk to our boss about our problems and tried to convince him to hire more people into our department. He told us some shitty excuses like the budget is tight, we can't afford to hire another person. The next day, he hired a personal assistant for himself. We then asked him to pay us overtime but he told us that we don't get overtime becaue we are salaried workers. Then we asked him to give each of us a cell phone for tech support so we don't have to use our personal cell phone. He said no but he agreed to reimburse for our cable internet fees so that we can remotely connect to our client computers and our office computers for tech support. Is this job a joke or what? Our paid is not that great comparing to other people who have a computer science degree. In fact, our paid is even lower than an administrative assistant in the company. Wise words indeed... Wise words, sadly not ones that I dreamt up, but worth sharing with you I feel. Kudos to Smiley :-) 1. Any job done exclusively at a desk on a computer can be exported. 2. There are millions of hungry and smart folks available to do your job for less than you. 3. Companies consider people to be disposable commodities, no more important than office supplies. 4. Companies will try to foster loyalty from you while giving none in return. Being loyal to a company is suicidally stupid. 5. When you work for wages, figure out a way to save at least 1/2 your salary so that one day you have a hope of becoming one of the wealthy exploiters rather than a typical exploited wage slave. What's up with COVAD? Submitted by MrPlankton on Thu, 08/23/2007 - 21:44.

Covad is a DSL provider. They have been a great DSL provider for years. In the last 2 months or so things have not been so good with Covad. I have constant connectivity issues. They told me to replace all the DSL filters. Did that. They told me they would send a tech and it will cost $175. $175!! They cost me $80 a month in DSL service charges, which I am happy to pay when their service was great. Usually these guys just re-provision the line and no problems for weeks. But no not this time, we have to send out the $175 technician to fix it. So I call a few more times, try to get them to re-provision the line. No doing, they know me now. I am looking at my dead ASDL modem light and they are telling me everything is great, they see no problems. Guy has thick accent, so perhaps I am out of line and ask "what country is this?" he says Philippines. Ok... Covad USA company, but that's ok. DSL is still dead. Called a few more times try to get someone to do something (like re-provision the line), no doing. |
