A new job, a raise. On the CSD now. It's not the customers so much, what the hell- I don't care what they return. I actually like alot of them! I can always find something good in someone and actually make the experience a half way pleasant one. I even get along with alot of the other employees- no friendships-but still-pleasantries, a smile and a joke. It's my coworkers at the desk I dislike. I'm left to do most of the work while they stand around and talk and discuss tattoos, baby pictures, and who got arrested last week.(Usually Baby's Daddy) Last week I came in and one of my coworkers left immediately because of 'ill health'. I wonder if anyone is working at, was working at, or had tried to get on with a virtual call center. I tried applying for Alpine Access today (www.alpineaccess.com) and wondered if anyone had any tidbits about companies like these? I realize they don't pay that well, but oh well. If I'm going to do User Support I may as well get paid less and do it from home. I'm here again Submitted by nacho_bitch on Sat, 08/04/2007 - 21:36.

Just thought I'd say hey. I was reading my blog for shits and giggles and thought I would update it. I did take the dispatcher job that pays shit, but I got a small raise. (Emphasis is on the SMALL part, but I'll take what I can get.) I've checked out some other opportunities but nothing really pans out ever. But, I'm over halfway done with my masters now - nearly ALL done with the actual classes, it's just the internship and thesis that will be a bitch. I start my internship - which is actually at a really good site - this fall. I've had some issues with the current job, but I discovered that 2/3 of my supervisors are good people. One understands every one of my frustrations, tells me that I'm one of the top people in terms of numbers, and therefore she doesn't want me to be frustrated so I can always come to her if I am. Today I was the victim of having to work on the desk no1 wants to work on. It is an intermediate position and i was informed i am now earning LESS than all of the checkout workers because i took a career break after working there gave me an anxiety disorder. Being screamed at all day does that to you. On the terms that I return to work I was told I would maintain my old rate of pay but nooooo - they look blankly and say its not "on the system" whatever that means. So I am now earning the lowest in the store to do mid-level supervision and customer services. I am not having that! I dont see how I have somehow lost the entitlement to even their minimum pay. I work in a customer service department with two other people who sit directly behind me. They use instant messenger constantly and whenever they want to talk about someone, usually me, they will start typing away, while laughing at the same time. Funny, when I turnaround to ask a question, it suddenly stops, then resumes when I turn back to my computer screen. Interestingly enough, these two ask me why I get so focused on the work at hand, could it be the IM'ing that they are doing? I have found Hell on Earth! If you had to name the worst possible job in the world, even worse than a London public toilet cleaner it would be a Customer Service Operator. I used to have a normal blood pressure good in fact but the stress I have experianced since Christmas have pratically doubled it. We have been taken over by a bigger company and been given less staff and extra workload, this all went tits up and we all wanted to slit our own wrists. Then little while ago we are told we are merging with an even shitter company, we do get new staff but again more workload! Head office have also changed things, we are a deliverying company they have made changes that has resulted in the drivers having to deliver more than they can cope with and when they don't attempt we get a mouthfull. HATE a shithead at your work? I sure do Submitted by mbb on Wed, 04/04/2007 - 22:59.

So I work in a small office of about 12-13 people. I am currently a slave in the customer service department and I get paid shit. This is not what bugs me though. I realize that my job is near entry level, and the pay should suck, which is why I am going to school at the same time, but here is the catch. I have a shithead "administrator". Think of the typical DOUCHE-BAG, and multiply him by 40 or 50 times. Not only does he do the SAME exact job as I do (with a few extra mundane, simple tasks thrown in) he literally dumbs down my job, as if a monkey could do it. Not only is he mainly responsible for tasks that are less stressful, and over-all more simplified than mine, he is NOT qualified for even MY job (which is lower ranked than his). You should hear this fuckface talk to human beings. How did he get this job you say? He is the bosses "friend". Fuck that. I quit six months ago, and I still get pulled into the drama! One of my best friends, who worked at my previous place of employment and whom I helped to get the job, got fired last week after not quite one year at the company. She got fired for blogging on myspace. How did they find out??? Because another employee had a myspace. He was friends with a former coworker, who was friends with me, who was friends with her. Then he quit. Then he decided to come back, and they fired the guy who they had hired to replace him, and demoted another guy from a supervisory position so this dude could make his triumphant return. My friend blogged about it and said a few words about him - nothing too horrible, just that he was a pervert and an idiot. He found it and his ego couldn't take it. So he went to the company VP with a blog that she had written about the VP, and since HIS ego couldn't take it, he fired her. I HATE MAIL Submitted by High420 on Wed, 01/17/2007 - 18:56.

I sit here for 8 hours a day listening to people whine and complain all day about how their mail carrier crossed their lawn and how the window clerk at their post office looked at them crossed eyed. The calls come in back to back not even a rest between calls. And when you try and explain to the customers the postal service policies whether it be for delivery or tracking they don't want to hear it. They take the whole "Customer is always right" thing a little too far. And i love when they send out their bills as first class mail(which we cannot track)and call us deamnding us to track the item, you tell them over and over that you cannot track them and they tell us we are not assisting them and ask to speak with our supervisor, i usually just hang up on them. And the management here is soooooo FUCKED up. They make sooo many mistakes and yet they never get written up or any action taken against them. I have been here 3 years and have had 8 supervisors and i think i had 1 supervisor that actually cared and tried to help us out.The only good thing about this job is we get the holidays like Veterans day, presidents day off. I make $10.67 an hour to get my ass called down all day and have management breathing down our necks about quality and talk time. I swear us as americans take alot of thign for granted. When people can call up a number and call us every name in the book just because they did not recieve mail for 1 day, i swear what is this world coming to. Oh, the agony of it all. Phone call after fucking phone call. Problem after fucking problem. All day long I clean up other people's messes -- other people higher up and higher paid than me. How many problems can you possibly solve in one day? And what happens to all those unsolved problems? Will they just evaporate? No. They will just keep piling up, creating more problems. Listen to me. I can't even form coherent sentences anymore. I'm blogging rhetorically. Oh, how I long for the peace & apparent comfort of being a bum. Ok, so maybe that's not so funny. I'm sure there are plenty of real, honest-to-god bums who wouldn't appreciate that. Oh, if I could just afford to work somewhere like a bookstore, or some other environment where people don't have so many goddamned problems. Bookstore customers don't have problems. I just don't want to deal with the problems of humanity anymore. The Third Reich is alive an well Submitted by clareisbored on Thu, 01/04/2007 - 22:18.

I was unhappily carrying out my day to day as a manager of a bank when my old company that I left for perfectly good reasons rang me and made me a mighty fine offer. Time being the excellent healer and memory remover that it is, I graciously accepted their offer and here I am back with the company I left 4 years ago - almost in the same chair ! |
